Singing River Health System is committed to providing quality hyperbaric oxygen therapy at Singing River Hospital in addition to our comprehensive wound care services. Modern, state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers are available to treat complex, difficult-to-heal wounds.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe, medically prescribed treatment. Patients are placed in a pressurized system for short periods of time, breathing 100% oxygen. Concentrated oxygen is delivered to the bloodstream, enhancing the healing process. As a patient, you will be placed in a comfortable, climate-controlled chamber, which is completely transparent. You may sleep, watch television, listen to music or even watch a movie. A caregiver will be in constant communication with you. Each treatment will last approximately two hours and is given once or twice daily, based on the physician’s orders.
Once the request for consultation has been received by the wound care and hyperbaric medicine center, a physician will assess you and determine whether hyperbaric oxygen will benefit your condition. If so, a staff member will complete an assessment, offer a tour of the department and provide you with a full explanation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and what to expect.
