Obesity is a major concern in our country today. More than half of Americans are overweight, and roughly 12 million Americans suffer from morbid obesity. Mississippi is no different, ranking in the top 5 for obesity. Along with this disease, other diseases can develop, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, sleep apnea and degenerative joint disease, all of which are major causes in premature death.
Since 2000, Singing River Health System and the South Mississippi Surgical Weight Loss Center have partnered to offer bariatric surgery along the Gulf Coast to those who are significantly overweight and need more help than traditional exercise and a diet can offer.
The services offered include weight loss surgery procedures and non-surgical programs with guidance to help patients change their exercise and nutrition habits. South Mississippi Surgical Weight Loss Center believes education can help you get the best from your surgery. The center offers nutritional classes and dietary consults with each office visit. A monthly support group is offered to assist patients with their progress. They also offer an information session twice a month at their Ocean Springs location and a webinar twice a month for those considering and/or planning to have weight loss surgery. » Register Now!
