Singing River Health System Healthy Selection is a program designed to encourage Jackson County citizens and visitors to choose the healthier selection when dining out. Our Healthy Selection standards for each meal are flexible, but average at 550 calories, 20 grams of fat and 600 milligrams of sodium, which follow the American Heart Association and US Dietary Guidelines standards.
Our goal for this program is for anyone to walk into any of the many restaurants Jackson County has to offer and have a healthy option at their fingertips; something that is handpicked by Singing River Health System specifically for its nutritional value. Each restaurant will not only have a healthy selection seal to display the healthy selection(s) they offer, but they will also be featured in our Singing River Healthy Selection Guide that will be distributed to all of our patients, employees and throughout Jackson County.
We have also learned many of our local restaurants do not know the exact nutritional value of the dishes they offer. Healthy Selection has contributed to the nutritional education of restaurant owners within the county as well as high hopes that restaurant owners will realize what exactly is in the food they are serving customers, and hopefully make small changes to improve the nutritional value of their meals. We believe a major change starts with small changes first, and we want to help change the health of our citizens for the better.
