Approximately 250 local residents formally volunteer with the Singing River Health System hospital auxiliary volunteer program at Singing River Hospital, Ocean Springs Hospital and Hospice of Light. We also offer a Candy Striper and the Junior Medics Volunteer Program.
Singing River Health System Auxiliary Volunteers come from all walks of life. These caring and compassionate partners in care serve in many different areas, providing quality services to our patients, visitors, guests, and hospital staff. Volunteers are friendly, self-motivated and service minded, bringing an added dimension and personal touch to the experience of a hospital visit.
High quality volunteer service underscores every aspect of our Auxiliary Volunteer organization. Our main objectives:
- To provide compassionate, friendly service to patients, guests, and hospital staff
- To serve as “goodwill ambassadors” for Singing River Health System
- To support special projects and student scholarships
- To provide meaningful, well-organized and rewarding opportunities for service to our volunteers

At Singing River Health System, we love working with students as they serve their community by serving as hospital volunteers. Every summer we host a two month student volunteer program where eligible students may work alongside our staff performing non-clinical support functions in areas like:
- Employee health
- Nursing services
- Infection control
- Rehabilitation services
- Emergency room
- Business office
- Food and nutrition
Potential student volunteers (high school students age 15-18) must complete an application, be approved by our auxiliary coordinators and submit a TB blood test. Volunteers receive training and orientation and must be able to work at least ten scheduled hours per month in June and July.
The 2017 application process for summer student volunteers is now closed. Students interested in volunteering next summer should contact their high school Allied Health Education coordinator to apply for the 2018 program.
