Singing River Health System’s Ocean Springs Hospital Awarded ‘A’gain for Patient Safety

Recognized among the Nation’s Safest Hospitals with the Highest Grade in the Region by Leapfrog.

Singing River Health System’s, Ocean Springs Hospital, is the ‘A’ Team of Patient Safety, as it was awarded an ‘A’ grade for a second time in Leapfrog’s Fall 2019 Hospital Safety Grade Report, the highest score received among area hospitals.

The designation recognizes Singing River Health System’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Quality is a core value for us, it is in our DNA,” said Lee Bond, Chief Executive Officer of Singing River Health System. “This “A” designation of quality and safety is the portrayal of the passion and hard work of our dedicated clinicians, technicians and support staff whose mission in this life is to improve the health and save the lives of others.”

“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”

How Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade System Works

Developed with support by a national panel of experts, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade utilizes 28 measures of public hospital safety data to attribute grades to nearly 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals in the United States. Conducted twice every year, this methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent. Leapfrog makes the results free to the public.
